This upcoming Friday is the opening of the "Superheroes and Villains" art show over at Carter Sexton's Art Store. Carter Sexton is one of the oldest art stores still around in Los Angeles. Right when you see the store front, you can tell that there is something special about this art store. It's like the mom and pop grocery store compared to the Ralphs and Walmart. When you walk in, you see all the old wood cabinets and furniture holding up the art supplies. Their walls show a collection of old illustration 1950's type paintings.
Carter Sexton supports the artist community by holding a different themed show once a month. I was surprised that they accepted my Panda paintings into the superheroes show since Panda is not a "superhero" like Superman. The My Melody and Kuromi cosplaying as Thor and Loki were a shoe in. =) Once I brought my pieces there, I understood why they liked my stuff.. It is a different take on the superhero theme compared to Batman (in which they joked that it's "very well represented").
The art store ladies and guy gushed over how cute my work was. One lady even remembered that I had sold my Hello Kitty Wonder Woman and Chococat painting during their holiday show a couple of years ago. Their reaction to my work helps me see what works in my art style. I am drawn to painting cute and happy things. I just want to paint something that makes people smile... simple as that.
